Currently (as of July 2025), there are no publicly bookable advertising spaces on ChatGPT. OpenAI is working behind the scenes with selected partners and testing initial advertising formats – so-called ‘sponsored suggestions’. These appear as organic-looking recommendations in the course of a conversation, for example along the lines of: ‘Would you like to see a suitable tool for this?’ A classic self-service system like Google Ads does not yet exist.
Nevertheless, several developments indicate that this will soon change. Internal planning documents from OpenAI, reported on by Search Engine Land among others, forecast advertising revenue of over 1 billion US dollars in 2026, with the goal of increasing this to up to 25 billion by 2029. According to an analysis by WebFX and assessments by several industry observers, the introduction of advertising options – especially for users of the free version – is considered realistic in the course of 2026.
Officially, OpenAI is still cautious.
Conclusion: Advertising on ChatGPT is not yet publicly available. However, those who prepare now, develop relevant use cases and build an understanding of dialogue-based recommendations can benefit early on when the channel launches and secure a decisive advantage before prices rise and competition increases.
Google Ads is based on keywords and search intent. ChatGPT Ads, on the other hand, rely on the dialogue history. Advertising is not searched for, but recommended contextually. This requires a completely different campaign design. The relevance is higher and the scatter loss is lower.
